Another year passes and the site continues to tick along. The stats aren’t astounding, as I don’t blog and the page is very niche, in fact we only had 233 visitors this year and the majority of those I suspect were disappointed Chinese. If just one person finds it useful that’s enough for me. This year I was contacted by the grandaughter of Albert C T Outtridge.
“I have been researching my grandfather’s military history. He served in 7th Devonshire then 87th Anti Tank RA. I know that he trained in Chagford, Devon and my mum and her mother stayed in a farmhouse nearby whilst my grandfather trained there. My mum tells the story that she was the regimental mascot as they didn’t have one. My grandfather didn’t really speak about his time in N Africa/Italy/Austria but told stories about a pet monkey he had whilst in N Africa. I believe he was a Cook by trade whilst serving. In the photo of the 87th whilst in Chagford, he is back row 4th from the left. I still have the original Soldier’s Release Book.”
I am keen to record these enquiries as proper blog entries. If you are a family member or researcher and have the time to share your reasons for looking at the site, please use the contact form.
Happy New Year!
